Apple Picking

Back in October (where has the time gone?!) Garrison and I headed up to North Carolina to pick some apples. The year prior we had planned to go, but every weekend we were free the weather was terrible! So here are a few pictures from our long awaited journey. img_9323img_9324img_9338We chose to pick Pink Lady apples because they were the only (semi) red apples in season at that time. I’m not the biggest fan of sour green apples. Garrison is the least picky person I have ever met and he might argue that I am the most picky person he has ever met. Sorry Garrison.  img_9340img_9345img_9351We rarely remember to get pictures of the two of us together. But this time, I asked someone at random to take our picture. Well, this random wasn’t well trained in taking pictures with a DSLR camera nor the iPhone. But thankfully, one of the three he took wasn’t blurry. It’s a miracle!

This apple orchard is well known for their apple cider donuts. We waited a whole hour to get a dozen of these things. When it was almost our turn in line, a lady came up to us disguised in a giant scarf and some sunglasses and whispered to us. She asked if we would buy her a dozen if she payed us. Apparently her dog was at doggy day care and she had to go pick it up and didn’t have enough time to wait in line. I’m not one for bribery and I didn’t want to upset the people behind us. But Garrison being the kind soul he is couldn’t let her down so he agreed. Therefore her dog was picked up on time and we got free donuts! All is well.

After our little adventure, we came home and made an apple crisp and topped it off with some vanilla ice cream. I also made my Mom’s famous caramel apple dip, thanks Mom.

Short and sweet. Maybe one day I will remember or have time to write a blog post in decent timing.

Love,

Linny Liz

I’m Back

After a hiatus lasting almost a year, I’m back! Many a friend has encouraged me to keep up with this blog I started. So I guess I will take their advice and jump back in!

In a year, a lot happens. This year was full of design, the great outdoors, and road trips. Therefore, I will update you with a collection of random things that happened during 2016. And then we will see how things progress after that.

This semester, I took typography. At the end, my classmates and I had all created our own typefaces. I loved every second of this class.

An environmental typography project.

This was a huge accomplishment for me. I went into this class terrified and doubtful that I would be able to create a typeface but ALAS I did it and I’m pretty dang proud of it. This is my tired self with the typeface. It was created for NASA’s Space Camp (theoretically).

NOVO

At the start of the summer two of my best friends and I moved into a new place that we will be staying in for the year. Moving is so crazy but we love our new home. Maybe I’ll show it to you sometime soon.

Not to brag, but we have the best light…

Thankfully Garrison (the boyfriend) lived close by this summer. That meant adventure all the time. We love experiencing new things and usually choose a short road trip or a hiking trip instead of a traditional date…and I love it!

Garrison has taught me to appreciate the outdoors. In high school I hated being outside but now I’m always wanting to be out in the million degree weather (SC you are the worst but I still love you). I don’t mind getting a little (a lot) sweaty.

As far as road trips, I’ve been all over. I took a trip back to Cincinnati to visit my family, Garrison and I went to Atlanta, my family vacationed in Asheville, I headed to Nashville for a week, I went to Charleston a few times and the list goes on.

Garrison, that boy loves his mountains and he makes sure to take me there frequently. I don’t mind.

Cincinnati Reds vs Atlanta Braves

Chrome Yellow Trading Co.

In Atlanta, mid June, we celebrated both of our May birthdays (May 1st and 3rd). RIGHT ON TIME! I took him to the Coke Museum and he took me to a baseball game, my Cincinnati Reds verses the Atlanta Braves. Reds won by the way!

My roommate Caroline lives in Charleston and lets us come visit all the time. I love that city. This past visit we discovered Leon’s Oyster Shop and boy oh boy was it cute!

This is Leon’s waiting area. Dang cute.

My best friend from high school was living in Nashville this summer and I took a little trip up. I loved Nashville and am now craving its food. Mas Tacos I love you and I think about you often (haha).

Lastly, I wanted to brag on my boyfriend. He has been working super hard this summer creating art. He recently opened up and etsy shop with some of his work and he plans to add some pieces soon. Take a look. Click Here

Here is one of his pieces. But you can’t have this one because he gave it to me! Sorry!

Welp, there’s a little peek into my summer. Its not very thorough but hey, we all know I’m not the best at this.

Thanks for reading!

Life. Is. Crazy.

Hi! I’m still alive!

Summer ended. I wasn’t too sad. I’m not the biggest fan. But that meant heading back to South Carolina for school. This year as of now has been the craziest yet. I am so busy all the time. A lot of times they are obligations and sometimes they are super fun things that I have the chance to do. Nonetheless, I am always moving. Somedays I’m thankful for that and other times I wish I could just sit down and watch Netflix. I am home right now and it’s been so nice to be with family, sit and do nothing, and spend some time in this city that I love. Cincinnati is cool. Come visit.

I wish I took more pictures of the fun things I do, but sometimes you just need to enjoy the moment. So here are a few pictures. Life lately according to my iPhone.

    IMG_0863 IMG_0874

This is Marissa (on the left). I call her Marty. She’s the best friend around. IMG_0946IMG_0742 IMG_7864

Oh, Lindsay, why do you have so many pictures with this boy? Well, because we are dating. His name is Garrison. He’s rad. IMG_0512

I just have to take a moment and tell you about one of my favorite restaurants. It’s called Tandem Creperie and Coffeehouse. I’m in love. It’s in Travelers Rest, SC, which is about an hour from campus. I spend way too much gas money going here, but I have no regrets. It’s just so good. So if you are ever passing through TR, stop by. The people are SO genuine and kind and the crepes and coffee are super tasty. IMG_1038

Garrison came to Ohio with me for a short weekend. He was a great sport and drove for me most of the way. However, he insisted that we stop at the original KFC in Kentucky…..I am not a fan of KFC, but I couldn’t break his heart so I agreed reluctantly. The service was terrible. We didn’t get our biscuits as promised. I think he really just wanted it for the sake of this picture.

IMG_1035

Last week was very stressful so as the weekend approached, Garrison decided we should do something fun and take our minds off of school and BOY was it much needed. We ended up going to Asheville, NC. We stopped by Vortex Doughnuts.  We had been following them on Instagram for a while but never got around to trying them out. We ate our donuts before we could take a picture.

Next we went to see Martian. We both liked it a lot. It was a very pretty movie.

After the movie, we were starving and after asking a few people where to eat we ended at Buxton Hall Barbeque. The place was so so cool and the food was so good. They had peach bbq sauce and if you know anything about me, you know I’m a sucker for anything peach. Also, their bathrooms were cool. I love groupings of small mirrors and such.

As I mentioned, I’m home for fall break. My first day home, my dad had informed me that he had bought tickets to see Penny and Sparrow in concert. Penny and Sparrow are in my top 5 band which is not an easy list to compile. Saying that I was excited was an understatement. The music was amazing and after I got the chance to meet them and let me tell you, they are some of the nicest people. They made our little conversation so personal and it really made me like them 10x more. If you haven’t heard them, please do.

 IMG_1037

There is a pond by campus with a million ducks and geese. I loathe geese. But look at that duck with an afro. Cute.

This post was all over the place, but I felt like I needed to make sure you all knew I was alive.

Until next time,

Sincerely, Linny Liz

Nerdy Vacation

Every summer our family goes on a week-long vacation. We choose a new place every time to make sure we see something we’ve never seen before. My parents are really good at making sure we get to see lots of cool things and my mom loves planning (crazy lady).

So this year, we went to Williamsburg, VA. I know, sounds lame (Mom even said so). This was a very nerdy vacation (hence the title) but never the less, a good one. Always an adventure with the Higgins family.

IMG_9813_2

First lets address the wardrobe that I packed for this trip. Would you look at that variety?! But seriously people, this is not the complete collection of my striped articles of clothing. I have a serious problem. Someone stage an intervention.

IMG_7434

Look at my cutie sister. Little blurry, but still cute.

IMG_7538

The first day, we headed to Jamestown. There were two choices, the Jamestown Settlement which was a plot of land that has buildings and a shipyard with people dressed up who reenact what it would be like in the first settlement in America. The other choice was Historic Jamestown. Historic Jamestown was the actual land where the first settlement was placed. And of course we visited both.

This lady was simply a bundle of joy (Sarcasm). She was demonstrating how to weave different things such as baskets and cloth etc. But I was cracking up at some of the comments she was making to people asking questions. Her answers were so dry and sarcastic and I’m all like “Lady, why ya workin here?”
IMG_7548

Here’s a chicken.

IMG_7563

We had walked into this church and this fella appeared and started talking for a long time, and we accidentally got roped into a tour in which he took us around to each building and explained everything. And a round of applause for this guy because it was H.O.T. outside and he was wearing a full suit of armor.
IMG_7575

I won’t lie, I’m not one for reenactments. I’d much rather see the real deal and look at all of the artifacts. Therefore, I was much more interested in Historic Jamestown.
IMG_9820_2

This cool little structure was sitting right next to the foundation that Pocahontas was married on! Wowie!
IMG_7604

There was an archaeological dig going on while we were there and I was fascinated. Mom’s excitement might have beat mine though. Mom’s the kind of gal who will talk to anyone to get the inside scoop. While me and my sister had walked away to look at something else Mom had found this old man who knew ALL about the dig and gave us a rather lengthy explanation with pictures and everything. Thanks dude!IMG_7657IMG_7659

The next day was July 4th so we headed to Downtown Williamsburg where there were lots of festivities planned (This was a reenactment sort of thing too). The first thing happening that Mom was wanting to see was the reading of the Declaration of Independence. We missed it. Boo. Sorry Mom. However, we didn’t miss the tug-of-war. Yippee! IMG_7670

Hey Ma!
IMG_7688 IMG_7690 IMG_7695IMG_7691

There we lots of little buildings that you walked around in where people were demonstrating different trades. This little building was so cute.  IMG_9857The next day was my favorite. We made our way to Washington DC. I had never been there before and let me tell you, I WILL be going back. I might even want to live there some day (shhh). We were typical tourists that day. Might as well have been wearing Hawaiian shirts, camera around our necks and sunscreen slathered on our faces…oh wait I had two of the three…I burn easily….

IMG_9839_2

We made it to the White House, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Air and Space Museum, the National Archives and the Washington Monument. We only had a day so we did our best. IMG_9884_2

What a bABE. (I know I already made that joke on Instagram but it just kills me every time)IMG_9888_2IMG_9907

OKAY. Have you had Shake Shack? If so you are probably like “Seriously Lindsay, get with it.” but seriously best burger and fries I’ve every had. Ever. IMG_9905IMG_9908

Mom wanted to head over to Georgetown Cupcakes “as seen on tv”. To be honest, I didn’t really like them. Sorry.IMG_9920 IMG_9926

Lauren wanted a beach day so we set out to find a good beach. And as we left, it started to DOWNPOUR. We found an empty beach, snapped some pictures, stuck our toes in the water and set out to look for another beach with nicer weather.
IMG_9929_2

IMG_9952

And success! We found a sunny beach with only two other people!

Twas a nerdy vacation, twas a hot vacation, but we sure did have a lot of fun!

Sincerely,

Linny Liz

Another Dimension

Let me tell you about a magical place. My friends and I happened upon it while exploring one day. This place is very strange and I like to call it the “magical thrift store” *grand hand gestures*. This place is a “thrift store” (quotations because I don’t know what else to call it) that has one very small path way that maneuvers through many different, very dark, rooms and eventually out into an small fenced off area outside. When I say small path, I mean small. There is barely enough room for one person to walk much less two. Junk is just piled to the ceilings on either side.

IMG_7706 This place is so very whimsical (one of my favorite words) but at the same time very frightening; there is just too much stuff here. As you walk through, let me tell you, this place is not lacking terrifyingly creepy baby dolls, some decapitated. If you are brave enough to make it to the outdoor section and have not since gone running for the hills, you will find a large number of junk along with a large number of live geese and chicken. Seriously. But if you look hard enough and try not to knock anything over you might find something really cool…or maybe just another creepy doll.

IMG_7741

I mean, look at all of this junk….HOW IN THE WORLD?IMG_8101 IMG_8091 IMG_8116 IMG_8113 IMG_8080

I can’t decide whether I love or hate this place, but I have been here more than once. If you are ever in Greenville, SC, go look for it.

Sincerely,

Linny Liz

Hi!

IMG_8057

My name is Lindsay Elizabeth. Welcome to my first every blog post. (Can you tell I’m new?) Here on this blog I plan to do a whole lot of rambling, photo dumping and who knows what else (lucky you!). If you are ever so interested in getting to know me (which I’m sure you are), here are a few tidbits about me: I am currently living in Ohio/South Carolina; Ohio-Home, South Carolina-School. I am a graphic design student. I used to have a secret clubhouse in a barn next-door (little chairs and desks and posters from magazines, the whole shebang). I hate fluorescent lighting. I love fruit….a lot. I absolutely HATE when my socks get wet (my father agrees). When I’m bored, I rearrange the room I’m my head.

Phew…that was scary…but TADA! First blog post. Its not much, but it’ll do. I promise they will get better…maybe.

Sincerely, Linny Liz
